Indoor Games for Dogs – Fun Ways to Entertain and Bond With Your Dog Without Stepping Outside

Rainy days, busy schedules, or health restrictions can sometimes make dog walks tricky but that doesn’t mean your dog has to be bored or bouncing off the walls. There are loads of fun, easy games you can play indoors to keep your dog mentally and physically stimulated.

Here are some of our favourites:

1. “Find It!”

A classic. Grab some treats or bits of kibble and hide them around the house. Start easy (in plain sight), then make it trickier under cushions or behind furniture.

Great for sniffing, thinking, and satisfying your dog’s natural foraging instincts.

2. Treat Puzzle Toys

There are plenty of interactive toys out there—from basic Kongs filled with peanut butter to more complex sliding puzzles.

They keep dogs busy, encourage problem-solving, and are especially good for dogs who eat too fast.

3. The Cup Game

Place a treat under one of three cups and shuffle them around. Can your dog pick the right one?

It’s a great brain workout and fun to do and scary how quickly they catch on.

4. Tug-of-War

Perfect for building strength and burning energy. Just make sure to teach a reliable “drop it” command to keep the game polite and safe.

Bonus: it strengthens your bond and helps your dog burn off steam without needing much space.

5. Training Time

Short, 5-10 minute training sessions are brilliant for mental exercise. Teach a new trick, reinforce old ones, or try scent work (like identifying objects by name).

This keeps your dog’s brain active—and builds confidence and trust.

6. Obstacle Course

Use cushions, chairs, broomsticks, or boxes to build a little course around the living room. Jumping, weaving, crawling—it’s a workout and a laugh.

7. Name That Toy

Teach your dog to recognise toy names (“Bunny”, “Ball”, “Foxie”...) and fetch them on command. It takes time, but many dogs can learn dozens!

Quick Tips:

  • Use low-calorie treats or part of their daily food to avoid overfeeding.
  • Keep sessions short and positive—5 to 15 minutes is perfect.
  • Watch your dog’s body language—enthusiasm is key!

Indoor play doesn’t just bust boredom—it helps your dog feel engaged, connected, and loved. And that, after all, is what being a great dog companion is all about. 🐾🐾
