Crumble - Our Guide Dog Sponsor Puppy
Crumble is the 5th Guide Dog puppy Ace Canine have sponsored. We enjoy watching their progress and keeping you updated on their achievements as they prepare to graduate puppy school and match with a visually impaired partner.
We’ve had some sad news about Crumble. After Crumble’s October update, her trainer, Charlotte, noticed that she was drinking more than usual, which can be a sign that a dog is feeling unwell. Charlotte booked her in with the vet to investigate, we are sad to share that Crumble was diagnosed with kidney disease, which means that her kidneys are not working as effectively as they should.
Crumble's health and wellbeing are the top priorities, so she has been taken out of the Guide Dog training programme to ensure she receives all her treatment without any additional pressure. We’ve been reassured that Crumble is still her happy self and is being well cared for by her loving fosterers while the veterinary team will work closely with her Dog Welfare Officer to manage her condition. Because of this Crumble’s sponsorship journey can’t continue but we know she will be loved and cared for.
The good news is, we've been allocated another puppy at the same stage of training as Crumble. Our puppy before Crumble was called Pudding, we were hoping to get Custard next but we're very pleased to introduce you to Sage.
Sage is under the care of Guide Dog trainer Victoria, she says:
"Sage is such a sweet girl. She’s only been at training school for a few weeks, so it’s still very early days for her. The first week I spent lots of time building our bond, and it’s developing really nicely. Sage has settled in with her volunteer fosterers well too. I’m also training another dog called Oscar, a golden retriever cross, and Sage gets along with him fantastically. In fact, she’s the boss of their little pack. Anywhere she goes, Oscar follows – it’s funny to watch!
Sage is very clever and has picked up the new skills I’ve begun to teach her quickly. Not only is she really smart, but she’s also got some funny quirks. She likes to lie down in what I can only describe as the shape of a frog – lying on her front, with her back legs stretched out on either side, forming a T shape. It makes me laugh so much!"
We'll share more Sage updates as we receive them.
